With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Martha Jean Dix, Age 94 (1930 – 2024). Predeceased by her husband James (Jim) Dix in 2007, they were married 53 years. She leaves to mourn: her brother Jim McNabb (Ottawa), Sons Craig (Susan) of Halifax, Kim (Joanne) of Ottawa and Kevin (Karen) of Waterloo, Grandchildren Emily (Conor), Cameron (Diana), Graham (Kristen), Michael, Rebecca, Lindsay (Jesse), Great Grandson Forest, as well as sister-in-law June Dix (Ingersoll), and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Jean was a founding member of the Church of the Master (United) in Scarborough Ontario in 1958 and joined Woodroffe United in Ottawa in 2018. In addition to singing in the choir, she served her community as a church elder, sat on many committees and created many banners and antependia for the church. Jean received many awards for her volunteerism in Scarborough with Meals on Wheels and the Red Cross.
Mom enjoyed playing tennis in her younger years and bowled till she was 88. She could beat almost anybody at Crokinole and mastered the art of Bingo in her later years. She was a gifted needlework artist (she was a charter member of the Scarborough Needlearts Guild in 1976 and taught at The Carlingwood Retirement home in her 90’s) but her greatest joy was her family. We are grateful for the good health she enjoyed throughout her long life; her passing leaves a hole which can never be mended. She will be sadly missed.
A service of remembrance will be held September 13, 2024, 2:00 pm preceded by a reception in the church hall at 1:00 pm, Woodroffe United Church, 207 Woodroffe Ave, Ottawa.
Interment to take place at Little Britain United Church Cemetery, 1000 Little Britain Rd, Little Britain, Ontario, Saturday, September 14, 2024, 2 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Woodroffe United Church in Ottawa, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
A Stitchers‘s Prayer
Lord, grant that I may see to stitch
Until my dying day.
And when my last short thread is clipped
And scissors tucked away,
The work that I have done live on,
That other folk may see
The pleasure I have known, Lord,
In the skill you gave to me.
