Joseph Slobodian

1939 – 2013

Passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at the Ottawa Hospital, General Campus. Survived by his wife Doreen (nee Walters), sons Joey (Angela), Mark (Jennifer), his extended family Tracey Toman (Kevin MacDonald), brothers; Peter (Stephie) Malashewski of Kenora ON, Paul (Liz) Malashewski of Terrace Bay ON. Grandchildren; Alexandra, Mitchell, Andrew, and special Poppa to Kyler MacDonald. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law Cora Wilton, Bertha Croucher, Josie Walters and brother-in-law Donald Boudreau. Predeceased by his parents Fred and Justyna Slobodian and his brother Alec. Joseph was a member of the RCAF for 24 years and as a civilian with DND for a further 17 years. He was a avid squash player at the RA Centre, a volunteer for many years at the Central Experimental Farm and had a lifelong passion for gardening. Our heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses of the Ottawa Cancer Clinic, the Oncology and Palliative Care 5th fl. East of the General Campus and to family Doctor Dr. M. Malek, your dedication and caring was greatly appreciated. Our thanks also to the many friends who helped us through this difficult time especially Mary Broderick and John and Carol Waddell. The family will receive friends at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home 1411 Hunt Club Rd. at Albion Rd. on Tuesday, April 2, from 9 to 10 a.m. Funeral Service at 10 a.m. in the Chapel. In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations to Cancer Research or Crohns and Colitis would be appreciated.
