Joycelyn Gibbons

(nee Foran) 1935-2017

In loving memory of Joy Gibbons who passed peacefully on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at the Hillel Lodge in Ottawa at 82 years of age. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward Gibbons and dear mother to Daniel (Valerie) Gibbons of Surrey, B.C. and Gary (Ardeth) Gibbons of Ottawa. Joy was a cherished Nana to Ryan Gibbons and Laura Gibbons of Surrey, B.C. Joy was predeceased by her parents Catherine and Patrick Foran. She was a valued family member to her sister and brother-in-laws and a special aunt to many nieces and nephews. Joy was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio where she received her Registered Nursing degree. She worked for a time with the Children's Aid Society and worked at the Sudbury General Hospital where she worked tirelessly as a Nurse. She retired as Director of the Psychiatric outpatient department. She spent her married life in Sudbury, Ontario raising her boys. She spent many summers down at the lake in Bristol, Quebec. She was a loyal member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 76 in Sudbury. She enjoyed volunteering, fundraising and was always up for a good game of Euchre. She was an avid reader and crossworder and loved her cat, Mr. Tibbs. Family and friends and are welcome to pay their respects at McEvoy-Shields Funeral home at 1411 Hunt Club Road (at Albion Road) Ottawa, Ontario on Saturday, October 28, 2017 from 6pm to 8pm. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at 10 am followed by a light lunch. The interment will take place at a later date in Sudbury Ontario.
