I got to know Karen as a colleague and I appreciated working with her on numerous projects so very much. She was always ready to help out and make things happen! I like to think of Karen as coconut - a bit of shell, but once you got through, you had a sweet, soft, and caring person before you. She will be really missed!

My sincere condolences to the Barber family, I am so sorry for your loss. I was truly shocked when I received the news about Karen, the air seemed different after hearing it.

Karen has been my work colleague for the last few years but more importantly she was my friend. She was such a generous lady in so many ways; she was always providing the sector with candies even though she didn’t eat them and she made sure that those bowls did not go empty; she thought of others before herself like driving from Orleans to work during the pandemic to give her printer to a colleague who needed it, and she was always there to talk if you needed a listening ear.

I will miss her sincere heart and wicked laugh.
RIP Karen

Karen was a fantastic colleague that I had the privilege of working with for over three years at Indigenous Services Canada. She was always willing to go the extra mile to help me and my team, and she added brightness to our day. I am shocked by her passing, and wish the Barber family my sincerest condolences in this difficult time.
