Katarzyna Gudz

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our loving Mother Katarzyna Gudz (nee Chodan), on early Monday morning July 4, 2022 at the age of 89. She passed peacefully at the Ottawa General Hospital with her daughter Danuta by her side.

Survived by her daughters: Danuta (late Kasey) Krupa, Krystyna (Fr. Andriy) Werbowy and son Jan (Lydia) Gudz, brother Mychajlo (Stefania) Chodan, grandchildren Mark, Roman, Zenon, Nykolai, Danylo and Sofia. Preceded in death by her loving husband Stefan, sisters: Maria (late Eugene) Woychyshyn, Eugenia (late Mykola) Kulyk and granddaughter Anna Werbowy.

Katarzyna was born on August 20, 1932 in Poland and immigrated to Canada with her husband Stefan and children in 1977, to better the lives of their children and to join her immediate siblings and mother in Canada. She was a long time member of the Ukrainian Catholic Church and the UCWLC where she enjoyed volunteering and socializing with other parishioners.

Katarzyna was a very loving, caring and devoted mother to her family. She always put others first. She enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and always looked forward to spending time with her family.

Panachyda will take place at the McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Rd., at 7:00 pm on Sunday July 10th, 2022. Funeral Service on Monday July 11, 2022 at 11 am at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Shrine, 952 Green Valley Crescent. Funeral Mass will be followed by burial at Beechwood cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Shrine in Ottawa.
