Magdalena Yager, aged 90, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at Civic Hospital in Ottawa after a brief illness. She was born April 6, 1929 in Krnjaja, Yugoslavia to Jakob Schneider and Magdalena (Noll) Schneider. She was the oldest of 4 children.
An extremely accomplished seamstress, excellent cook and avid golfer, Magdalena’s talents were many. She was a member of numerous golf clubs over the years including Hunt Club in Ottawa and Bear’s Paw Country Club in Naples, Florida. She was proud of her putting skills and her Hole-in-One, but what made her the happiest was all the wonderful friendships she developed on the golf course.
Magdalena was passionate about travelling which she did for many years with her husband of 25 years, Andrew Yager. Together, they travelled the world, including Indonesia, Australia and Vietnam. They loved to travel by cruise ship and Magdalena continued to share this passion with her children after Andy’s passing.
A devout Catholic and a regular parishioner of Holy Cross Church in Ottawa, Magdalena would attend mass as often as she could and spent many hours during her day praying to Our Lord.
Magdalena was a beloved sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved her family and especially loved to spend time visiting with and taking photos of her grandchildren. She was always there with love, advice and a smile for them.
Preceded in death by her parents, her son, Gary (Carol) Kilbertus and step-son Andrew (Lise) Yager. She is survived by her siblings Marianne (John) Heffner, Elisabeth (Peter) Nejedly, Richard (Kathy) Schneider, her son, Eric (Joan) Kilbertus, daughter Ellen (Scott) Hersey, her stepchildren Ronald (Linda) Yager, Brian (Jane) Yager, Nancy Yager, Thomas (Jan) Yager, 16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
The family would like to express their thanks for the wonderful help and care given by the staff at Civic Hospital. If desired, friends may make memorial contributions to Canadian Food for Children, 1258 Lakeshore Rd E., Mississauga, Ontario L5E 1E9 – www.canadianfoodforchildren.net
