I had the privilege of working with Maher during my 2 years in the School of Hospitality & Tourism. Maher always had a smile on his face and a friendly hello when we crossed paths.
My thoughts and prayers are with Maher's family during this difficult time.

I am so sad to receive this heartbreaking news.
Maher was a gentle soul who made an important impact during his time at Algonquin College. In January 2017, Maher was recognized by his colleagues when awarded a School of Hospitality and Tourism "Pineapple Award". If you are not aware, the pineapple is the international symbol for hospitality. This award recognizes people who exemplify our institutional values: Caring, Learning, Integrity, Respect plus three more for the School: Excellence, Professionalism, and Leadership.
This was his nomination:
"Maher has joined our School of Hospitality & Tourism in February 2013. You might be the least known person but your work impacts everyone. Teaching, students taking classes, in our teaching labs and kitchens in the Baking and Pastry Arts and Culinary programs. Maher you have this uncanny ability to keep our facilities sparkling clean with limited time constraints.
Caring: You are kind and caring towards every one you encounter (Co-workers, Professors and students)
Learning: You acquired a new set of skills (Maintaining a safe and healthy work environment for everyone involved, language)
Integrity: You are a very honest and trustworthy co-worker
Respect: You are respected by everyone you are working with
Professionalism: You may not be professional hockey player but you sure are a professional at your line of work!
Leadership: You are your own boss and works on a list a mile long.
Excellence: You have the quality of an outstanding employee.
Dedication: Maher you are a very dedicated and committed individual and you have an outstanding attendance record. Never missed a shift in almost four years of service. Also Rosie has to force you to take a tea break and make sure you get some nourishment. "
My sincere condolences to your loved ones and God bless.
