Kilmartin, Margaret

Born August 11, 1917 in St Georges, Newfoundland, Mom was the last member of a family of 11 children. She left Newfoundland to join the Canadian Women’s Army Corp in 1943 and was stationed in Ottawa, where she met Ed on his first day back from the war. They married a few months later; a loving union that would last until Ed passed away in 2006. Mom was devoted to her children, Deborrah (Tim), Danny (Linda) and Tammy, who died in 1989. Mom loved nothing more than having friends and family in her home -- the more the merrier! She delighted in regaling them with her cooking and, especially, her jokes. She was competitive and had many trophies for bowling, curling and shuffleboard. Mention “the Slots” and she would be ready to go on a moment’s notice. Knitting was a passion and her slippers are on feet all around the world. Much of her work was donated to her church. Mom made the world a happier place for almost 102 years and we were very lucky to have had her in our lives. She will be greatly missed by her family, countless nieces and nephews and all who knew her.

Memorial mass to be held at St Bernard Church, 1720 St. Bernard Street, Gloucester ON, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 17.

A reception in the church hall will follow mass.
