Maureen Thomson (née McCartin) passed away peacefully in the early hours of May 25, 2021 at home in her birthplace of Ottawa, at the age of 95. Small, but mighty, Maureen lived a life full of faith and love. She was surrounded by family until the end, and embraced in the hearts and minds of friends and loved ones who could not physically be present.
Though her life was bookended in Ottawa, she grew up in Arvida and lived around the world before settling back near her hometown to be closer to her family. It was in Arvida where she met her soulmate, Bob (Robert) Thomson, her husband with whom she shared 65 years before his passing in 2018. They raised a family and saw the world together, dancing and golfing their way across the globe—her two hole-in-ones to his none. Able to forge lasting friendships anywhere she went, nothing made Maureen happier than opening her home to others for a planned party or spur-of-the-moment gathering, especially if there were cards involved.
Maureen is survived by her sister, Pat Daley (John); her four children, who were blessed to have her as their mom: Glenn, Janet (Ted VanDusen), Brenda Prymack (Marc), and Sandra (Lynn Iding); six grandchildren: Pierce, Travis, and Darcy Ujjainwalla, Alex, Diana, and Anthony Prymack; and two great grandchildren: Riley and Spencer Ujjainwalla. Everyone’s grief is lessened in knowing she’s been reunited with Bob, her predeceased siblings, Leonard, Dinny, and Kay, as well as her parents, John and Mary (née Meagher).
The family is appreciative of the wonderful care provided by PSW’s Nyota, Berclid, Anisa and Lilia, as well as the palliative care from Dr. Helene Gousseau and the team from the LHIN.
Due to COVID-related restrictions, a private funeral service will be held at Holy Spirit Parish, Stittsville with an eventual interment at Pinecrest Cemetery.
