Michael was raised in Saint-Rose, Laval, where he attended Miles Iles Regional Catholic High School (MIRCH) and Sir George Williams University and built the foundation for a life defined by hard work, generosity, and community. He later made his home there, where he raised his children and remained deeply connected to those around him.
A dedicated member of his community, Michael served as a volunteer firefighter for over 20 years, always ready to lend a hand when others needed it most. His commitment to helping others extended far beyond his service—he was known for his kindness and willingness to give without ever expecting anything in return. Whether building decks, helping with home projects, or simply being there for someone in need, Michael gave freely of his time and talents.
Professionally, Michael built a successful career in sales, working with several respected companies. He was admired for his friendliness, compassion, and strong sense of ethics—qualities that defined both his professional and personal life.
Michael had a deep appreciation for life’s simple joys. He loved music, photography, reading, and sports, and found happiness in creating and building. Above all, he cherished his family and the time spent with them.
He is lovingly remembered by his son, Colin McKinnon; and his grandson Jaelon; also by his daughter Michelle McKinnon and grandson Kaden McKinnon. He is also remembered by his companion, Louise. Michael was predeceased by his beloved wife, Sharon McLellan, who passed away in 2015.
Michael will be sadly missed by his sisters, Linda and Claire, and their husbands, Fadi and Steve and many cousins, nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by parents, Colin McKinnon and Carmel Boisvert.
A celebration of life will be held at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road, Ottawa, ON, on Saturday, June 6, 2026, with visitation from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by the service at 1:00 p.m., where family and friends will gather to honor and remember the life he lived and the impact he made.
Michael’s legacy of kindness, generosity, and quiet strength will live on in all who knew and loved him.
