Mr. Michel Joseph Belanger

June 7, 1948April 19, 2020

Passed away on Sunday April 19, 2020 at the age of 71.

He was the son of the late Phyllis Maud Belanger and the late Hector Pierre Belanger and the husband of the late Lillian Mary Belanger (nee Holmes). He leaves in sorrow his daughters Natalie and Tanya, his grandson Evan Hajjar, his brothers Lorne (Lise), Gary (Natalie) and his sisters Micheline, Patricia (Yves), and Lorraine. As well as many nephews, nieces and so many friends. He was predeceased by his brother Patrick. Mike was one of a kind, a truly unique and engaging man who found humour in everything and made people laugh, regardless of the situation. He will be missed by so many and remembered by many more.

The family would like to thank the many caring workers who helped Mike over the past few years.

At this time, we will be postponing his funeral services until we can all celebrate his life together. A follow up announcement will be provided with those details, when we can.

In Memory of Mike, donations to the Heart Institute or to the COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund at the Ottawa Hospital would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Tanya, Evan and Natalie,
It’s so hard to lose a Dad/Grandpa and you are very much in our thoughts. We hopes it’s not too long before good memories replace your sadness.
We wish we had known your Dad, and your Mom, as they sound like wonderful people who loved well and were well loved.

As you well know, your Dad and Mom were good friends of the Gow Family. Our friendship ran from 1962 until mid April, 2020. Mike played in an Alymer, QC band , named The " 3 & 1/2 ". A few yeasr later , Mike came back into my life through Surgenor's and Bruce Digby, a fellow EOIT Grad. We rented three cottages in Lac Simon for about four years and that's when Michel met Lilian and I met Denise.

Denise and I always thought that your parents were an example to the world of how love, hard work, good choices, independence, and shrewd money management could reap security, happiness and a fine family. Remember well when we shared a dinner to celebrate the day the final mortgage payment on the Town House on Edie St, was made.

We shared many laughs throughout the years and our friendship was genuine. Mike lit up a room, was loved by my children and grandchildren alike. So many songs, weekend get a ways, and fun memories included your parents .

Mike had told Rudy and I that he was ready to go meet Lilian a few years ago and as the aches and pains doubled, he reconciled him self to that day. He is in a better place; but will never be forgotten by many of the old friends that remember better days.

God Bless him; but, the first few Thunderbolts we hear...May be Lilian keeping our little buddy in line.

Rest in Peace, Good Friend.

My heartfelt condolences to you Tanya, Nat, and Evan as you mourn the passing of your father/grandfather. While I did not have the opportunity to meet Mike, the stories I’ve heard are ones that tell me he endeared himself to all with his sense of humour and an ability to put a smile on the faces of those around him. Take the time you need to heal, and remember him fondly. Patrick, xo
