He was the son of the late Mary Teresa Kitts (née Culleton) and the late John Francis Kitts.
He leaves in sorrow his brother Kevin Kitts (Louise), his nephews, Daniel (Amy Parr) & Robert (Emmy) and his niece Catherine (Shane Bakker), his great-nieces Charlotte, Laura, & Melody, and his great-nephew Nolan.
Murray was a High School teacher and Librarian in Fort Frances in Northern Ontario for many years before his retirement in 1988. He left a lasting impression in the community because of his involvement in many areas, especially the High School Drama Society, the High School Band and the Little Theatre Group.
He was an avid Bridge player, loved traveling and had a passion for opera. He was very active in the National Capital Opera Society, serving in different executive positions including that of President.
The family would like to thank Les Sury and Mark Robinson for their unwavering friendship and support, as well as the nurses and staff of the Edinburgh Retirement Residence for their dedication and attentive care.
The family will receive condolences and celebrate his life on Saturday, April 11, 2026 from 2pm to 4pm at the Racine, Robert & Gauthier Funeral Home (180 Montreal Road, Ottawa, Ontario).
