After a lengthy stay at the Perley and Rideau Veterans’ Health Center, cared for by their loving staff, attended by his six children Paul (Suzanne), Colleen (Donnie), Michael (Maureen), Maureen, Nancy (Dave) and Cathy (Nick). Loving husband for over 55 years to the late Beatrice Cain. Beloved grandfather of Jordon, Jeffrey, Christian, Laura, Alex, Leeanne, Matthew, Alana, Lauren and Jewel. Oscar was one of a handful of survivors of Ottawa`s regiment, the Cameron Highlanders who landed on D Day. He proudly revisited the beaches of Normandy twice. His work ethic and his sense of humour never failed him and he charmed all those he met in life. Oscar leaves us with memories of his love of family, his heroism and his good humour. To have known him was a gift, to have been his child, an honor. Family and friends are invited to pay respects at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road, from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday April 2. Funeral Mass Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Lupton Hall, Perley Rideau Veterans’ Health Center. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Perley Rideau Veterans’ would be greatly appreciated.
