Peacefully, at the Perley and Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre, on Thursday, January 20, 2011 in his 91st year. Son of the late Cecil and Constance Godding and brother to the late Bert Godding. Husband of Mona (nee Bent), 65 years married, father of Julia (Patrick) Demerse, Pat Connolly of Calgary, and Stephen (Katherine) Godding. Grandfather to Clare Demerse (Chris Coughtrey) and Chris Demerse (Silvia Grandi), Mark and Laura Connolly, and Sarah and Myles Godding. Reg is survived by his brothers Cliff and Harold and sisters Connie and Phyllis. A lifelong Ottawa resident, Reg was a passionate and brilliant man who had many talents and interests. Some of the organizations that stood out were the YMCA, Camp Fortune even before tow lifts, the Royal Canadian Navy, and stamp collecting clubs, especially helping young people get started through ORAPEX. Reg was an active founding member of the City View Community Association and a long time badminton player. His interests were wide, from world travel and home renovations to gardening. His artistic endeavours ranged from constructing a stone wall to designing stained glass and finally taking up pottery at age 90. He had a long career as an Engineer with the City of Ottawa (RMOC) water works department. A celebration of Reg’s life will be held on Wednesday, January 26th at McEvoy- Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road. Visitation will be at 1p.m. with a memorial service at 2 p.m. and reception to follow. Donations in his memory can be made to the Ottawa YMCA/YWCA or The Ottawa Humane Society.
