Robert Nelson Fournier

C’est entouré de tous les membres de sa famille immédiate que Robert Nelson Fournier s’est éteint paisiblement le 4 juillet 2025, à l’âge de 78 ans.

Né à Sainte-Germaine-Boulé, en Abitibi-Ouest, Robert a grandi entre le Québec et l’Ontario, portant en lui la richesse de ses racines francophones et l’importance de l’éducation. Il a mené une carrière remarquable au service de la justice : avocat, procureur de la Couronne, puis juge pendant 37 ans, reconnu pour son intégrité, son humanité et son grand sens de la justice.

Il laisse dans le deuil son épouse Lola, avec qui il a partagé plus de 50 ans de vie, ses filles Michelle, Renée et Linne, ses gendres Eric et Sylvain qu’il aimait comme des fils, ainsi que ses petits-enfants : Xavier (Marie-Sophie), Aryane (Alex), Audrée, Cédric et Henri. Il laisse également son frère Bertrand Fournier, plusieurs beaux-frères et belles-sœurs, neveux et nièces. Il a été précédé dans la mort par ses parents, Nazaire et Cécile Fournier, ainsi que par son frère Yvan.

Passionné de golf, doté d’un esprit vif, généreux et bienveillant, Robert a profondément marqué ceux qui l’ont côtoyé. Sa famille représentait ce qu’il avait de plus précieux et il chérissait tout particulièrement le lien qu’il entretenait avec ses petits-enfants.

La famille souhaite remercier le Ottawa South Palliative Group, en particulier le Dr Daoud, ainsi que les médecins Smith, Jonker, Buhrmann et Kwok. Conformément à ses volontés, aucune cérémonie n’est prévue. Vos pensées peuvent être transmises à la famille et des dons à la Société canadienne du cancer sont suggérés en sa mémoire.

Qu’il repose en paix et continue de veiller sur les siens, où qu’il soit.

Robert Nelson Fournier (1947–2025)

Robert Nelson Fournier passed away peacefully on July 4, 2025, at the age of 78, surrounded by every member of his immediate family.

Born in Sainte-Germaine-Boulé, in Abitibi-Ouest, Quebec, Robert grew up between Quebec and Ontario, carrying with him the richness of his francophone roots and a deep belief in the value of education. He had a distinguished career in the service of justice—first as a lawyer, then as Crown attorney, and finally as a judge for 37 years—recognized for his integrity, empathy, and strong sense of fairness.

He is survived by his wife Lola, with whom he shared over 50 years of life, his daughters Michelle, Renée, and Linne, his sons-in-law Eric and Sylvain, whom he loved as his own sons, and his grandchildren: Xavier (Marie-Sophie), Aryane (Alex), Audrée, Cédric, and Henri. He is also survived by his brother Bertrand Fournier, as well as many brothers-and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was predeceased by his parents, Nazaire and Cécile Fournier, and his brother Yvan.

A passionate golfer with a sharp mind, a generous spirit, and a warm heart, Robert left a deep and lasting impression on those who knew him. Family was what he held most dear, and he especially cherished the close and joyful bond he shared with his grandchildren.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the Ottawa South Palliative Group, especially Dr. Daoud, as well as to Drs. Smith, Jonker, Buhrmann, and Kwok for their support in recent years. In keeping with Robert’s wishes, there will be no funeral or formal celebration of life. Those who wish to do so may send a message to the family, and donations to the Canadian Cancer Society are welcome in his memory.

May he rest in peace and continue to watch over those he loved, wherever he may be.
