Ron Morris was a moral North Star for keen teenagers like myself and so many others at Ottawa's RA Centre  -  too many years ago to want to mention.    

He did not deliberately seek this role as model,  I think.    BUT he was the moral compass for many of us, and I have never lost sight of this after leaving the Ottawa area many decades ago.    One thinks back to the badminton group of the late 1950s and 60s,  where  Ron taught and was a mild and unassuming but giant role model   ( and also where Ruth and daughters Judy and Peggy and others played.).    For many he was a fill-in dad as well as a mentor and quiet moral giant.  

So thank you,  Ron  -  and thank you entire Morris family for sharing this man with us.  This is only one very small aspect of the rich life of service that Ron and the Morris family lived.   Ron enriched many lives before and afterwards.  

And just for one last time . . . .     I will recount one of Ron's greatest but almost unseen sporting performances  -  not as a coach and mentor  -   but as a player partnered with pupil Alan Baird around 1968.     On the creaky, wooden badminton floors at the ( probably long gone ) Niagara Falls Badminton Club,   he and Alan prevailed in an incredible 2 plus hour marathon match sometime between midnight and 3 :00 am ( ! ) against two of Canada's leading under 18 players.       Ron at that time was "absolutely ancient"  - at least 40 years of age . . . .   or even older !    But he sometimes outshone the other three in their late teens/early 20s.    It was an incredible performance,  of which I was privileged to be one of the few witnesses still in the building.   Though this almost unwitnessed event has long passed quietly into the mists of history,   I did remind Ron on the few times I was able to see him during many decades of living elsewhere.     And typically Ron quietly and modestly chuckled.   

So thank you again, coach and fill-in dad and North Star for so many of us. 

And thank you entire Morris family,  for sharing him with us.

and helpful in our quest to better St Pats for the residents.
