It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved brother, Terry, a man who touched the hearts of everyone he met. His infectious laugh, quick wit and unconditional love will live on in our memories. Terry taught with the Ottawa Catholic Separate School Board for over 40 years and was the proud recipient of the Doreen Brady award. His many interests included the Knights of Columbus, the Irish Society, the Ottawa Kennel Club and working at the Minto, to mention a few. Terry will be remembered by his family- Vince, Elena and children, Helen Shields, Moira and Jim Walman, Brenda and Doug Charles, his nieces and nephews, Nuala Patton, Angela McIntyre and Andraius Skau. He is predeceased by his parents Sam and Winnie Cornforth, his brother-in-law Ken Shields and his dear friend Ian McIntyre. Special thanks to Dr. Peters and his staff at the Civic and Palliative Care doctors and nurses at both the Civic and Bruyere Hospitals. Visitation will be at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road, on Monday, August 16, 2021 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral mass will be held at Saint Patrick's Basilica, 220 Kent Street, a church close to Terry's heart, on Friday, August 20, 2021 at 10 am. We would like to add that we will always remember Terry's smiling face at the Irish Society dances but especially on bowling night. It was always a joy to be in his presence. He will be sorely missed by his loving sisters.
God Bless you. Ian and Margaret Stevenson.

Dear Helen, Moira & Jim, Brenda & Doug, and Family
our heartfelt condolences on Terry's passing. My time with the "Cornforth's" covers more than 70 years -- as you can imagine many happy memories I would love to share with you in this difficult time. Terry always had a broad, genuine smile and a very positive attitude, he was intelligent but not arrogant, he had a sharp wit and a wonderful sense of humor, if he was at the party, you knew it wouldn't be boring, he was kind and generous and loved life, he was curious and could keep a conversation interesting -- no matter the subject. But most of all we admired his courage -- in spite of his health challenges over the past years he never complained or fell into self-pity ---he " just got on with it"
Our thoughts and love are with you at this time.

Helen, Moira, Brenda and family,

The Tribute photos say everything about how well Terry lived his life and how much he was loved. Thank you for always welcoming June’s little sister into the Cornforth fold. May you take comfort in the many Terry stories that will be retold. Much love at this difficult time,

Dear Helen,
My sincere condolences to you and all of Terry's family on the loss of your brother. I worked with Terry for many years as a member of the O.E.C.T. A. Executive, Ottawa Unit. Terry was our Treasurer and worked diligently in that role keeping the books in excellent order. Terry also added greatly to the morale of our monthly meetings, always arriving with a joke and a big grin.
I shared Terry's love of dogs as well as his passion for Irish music.
Your brother was exemplary in his outlook on life, remaining positive despite all the adversities he faced.
May the Irish Angels welcome you into their choir, Terry. I shall miss our conversations.
My prayers are with all of you.

Sending sincere condolences on the passing of Terry. I remember , years ago, the fun times when I babysat for Aunt Winnie and Uncle Sam on Kent Street when I was a student at Immaculata. Those were good memories and I will never forget them. Terry will be missed by so many, both cousins and so many friends. He was certainly one of a kind. Thanks Helen for your posting. It has brought back so many nice memories of the family . Love, Margaret.

My heartfelt condolences to the family. And yes, I will miss Terry's infectious laugh and wit (even when it was at my expense). Love you all. I often think of our summers at the cottage. Happy to have spent them with the Cornforths as our neighbours.
