Generous. Elegant. Proud. Determined. Caring. Loving. Val was a friend, protector, and really a member of our family. She took such good care of me in Ottawa that one of my favourite and funniest experiences was driving through the centre of town with a mattress (which she had forced me to buy at Costco, because I didn't have one in my apartment) flopping on the top of her big gold car, the two of us holding it down for dear life, and roaring with laughter. She was so generous to us and to all her friends. We will miss her greatly, but we have lots of fun memories that will never be forgotten. All our sympathy and love at this sad time. Val and I met and became friends at Gusli Ensemble when we were in our early teens. As the two tallest girls, we usually were outcast from the dance repertoire. We did perform duets however.
Over the years, we supported each other through all the difficult times.
Val didn't enjoy travelling. She did enjoy being at home and was a great cook and loved to entertain. One of her other hobbies was crocheting hats. She also did a lot of volunteering at the Russian Orthodox church.
She was excellent at reciting Russian rhymes (prebautki) and would always make me laugh.
I miss you my dear, dear friend
