

Charles L. Sweatt U.S. Navy (Retired) beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, lost his short battle with cancer and passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, at the age of 80.
He was born to William and Geneva Sweatt on May 4, 1931 in Charlotte, N.C
Charles enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1950. He served in the Korean War and the Vietnam war and retired in 1970. He graduated from Ventura College with an A.S. Degree in Fire Science and served as a Firefighter at Point Mugu Naval Air Station, retiring from there in 1993. He did his job with integrity and honor.
Charles lived in many places but moved to Oxnard in1966 with his wife Barbara Jean Sweatt. Together they shared 55 happy years together until her death on May 5, 2010.
Charles is survived by his children Rhonda, Charles and Brenda; Grandchildren, Tonya A., Rochelle G, Nina R., Christopher T, Chrissy D., Jonny H., Zachary C., Amanda C; Great Grandchildren, D.J., Keira, Jason, Sean, Luke, Ian, Gabby, Sarah, Aidan, Feria and Davin.
Charles is preceded in death by his wife Barbara Jean Sweatt and his daughter Victoria Stillwell.
We wish to thank the nurses of the Ventura Californian Care Center, Assisted Home Hospice and our wonderful hospice nurse, Maggie Penny for all their love and support and the care of our father through this difficult time.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 25, at Funeraria Del Angel Conrad’s & James Reardon, 200 North C Street, Oxnard. Funeraria Del Angel Conrad’s & James Reardon, 401 W. Channel Islands Blvd, Oxnard, is assisting the family with arrangements, 487-4911.
