Born July 20th, 1930, Katina Christakis, in Jerusalem, Palestine.
After graduating high school, she met her British husband in
Palestine. They married and moved to England in November 1947, where her first child, Chris, was born in September 1948.
She worked hard raising her four children, Chris, Roy, Lawrence
and Vangi, on her own from 1963 as a single parent. She worked
very hard to feed and clothe us, and still found ways to spoil her
children on birthdays and at Christmas. She made beautiful
memories in the family home in Ainsdale, Southport, especially
with her grandchildren in England - who she loved to spoil too.
Her love for everyone always showed.
She always wanted to come to America to be close to her siblings,
and in 1981 she emigrated to the United States. Three of her
grown children followed her to America in different years, while
one remained in England. She visited as often as she could, and
they visited her whenever they could.
She was happy to be closer to her siblings.
She was blessed with three more grandchildren from Lawrence.
She helped look after them and watched them grow, making more
beautiful memories along the way.
She continued to work hard until she had an accident at work,
through no fault of her own, and had to retire early because of it.
Kathrene lived with her daughter Vangi and Vangi's husband for
about 20 years in Shasta Lake, California. At the end of 2018, she
and Vangi rented a home with Lawrence in Port Hueneme,
California, where she remained until her passing.
She dedicated her time to her family and relatives, always making
more beautiful memories along the way.
Her daughter became her caregiver as Kathrene entered palliative
care, followed by hospice care at home in April of this year. She
passed away peacefully, with Vangi and Lawrence by her side.
She now joins not only Jesus, but her mother and father, her
siblings Beny, Fifi, Vangi and Christo, her grandson Christopher, her
daughter-in-law Liz, and other loved relatives who went before her.
She leaves behind her surviving sibling Randa, her children Chris,
Roy, Lawrence and Vangi, her 7 grandchildren, 8 great-
grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, along with
numerous nieces and nephews.
Kathrene will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, her
humor, her quietness - always observing, just like her big brother
Beny - and her laughter. But most of all, she will be remembered
for the love she had for all her family and friends.
A strong-willed woman.
A loving mother.
A grandmother who loved to spoil her grandchildren.
A woman who created beautiful memories wherever she went.
She will be missed dearly.
Rest in Paradise, Kathrene (Mum)
Our Mum.
Our Friend.
Our Hero.
