

Mary Torres went home to our Lord, November 11th, 2013. She died peacefully in her sleep surrounded by family and friends. She was 88. Mary was born in Oxnard on April 13, 1925 to Yrineo and Guadalupe Mireles. In 1950 she married Angel Avila Torres. She loved to cook, bake, sew and garden. She was witty and had a wonderful sense of humor. She was active with both Guadalupe and St. Anthony Church. She enjoyed cooking for her loved ones at family gatherings and traveling the world with her lifelong friends. She helped raise her grand-children and helped her brother Manuel with his young ones, Tony, Ana and Alex when he was widowed. Having been orphaned at a young age she was very close to her brothers and loved them deeply. They had known crisis together, lived through it and came out incredibly proud and strong. Mary Torres was one tough lady! She is survived by two brothers Manuel Mireles and Jesus Mireles and his wife Aurora, son Orlando Torres, daughters Beatrice Sutello and Elva Lindsey, husband Kingston, four grand-daughters, four grand-sons and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Angel, brothers Euchevio and Paul Mireles sisters Jessie, Josie and Polly. We will forever love and remember our querida Capitana! Her viewing will be Sunday November 17 from 4 - 6 p.m., Rosary to follow at Conrad-Carroll, 401 W. Channel Islands Blvd. Mass will be Monday the November 18 at 10 a.m., St. Anthony's. Burial to follow at Santa Clara Cemetery.
