Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, friend, Naomi (Camarena) Obregon of Oxnard, California, went to be with the Lord at the age of 88 at Santa Paula Hospital due to complications from pneumonia on July 2, 2019.

Naomi was born on September 19, 1930 in Tucumcari, New Mexico. She is the daughter of Dora (Sundermann) Camarena, and Rev. Otoniel Camarena. She was the third of seven brothers and sisters; Damaris Rodriguez, Sam Camarena, Sr. (Dec’d), Vida Chavez (Dec’d), Deonicia Raines, Aurelia Erickson, and Otoniel Camarena, Jr. Her father was a Methodist minister and the family moved with each appointment; she grew up primarily in Arizona with Tucson being the last familial city prior to her marriage. She married Jose (Joe) Obregon on March 17, 1956 and recently celebrated 63 years of a wonderful marriage. Together Joe and Naomi lived in Anaheim and Goleta before settling in Oxnard where they purchased their home in 1960. Naomi lived there with Joe until her passing. Naomi attended nurses training at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, Az and received her R.N. in 1952. That was back in the day when nurses wore white uniforms with caps. She worked at several area hospitals as a medical surgical nurse, including the former Oxnard Community Hospital, the former Belinda Hospital Port Hueneme, and the former Camarillo State Hospital.

In addition to her parents and two siblings Sam and Vida, and some loved uncles, aunts and cousins; she was preceded in death by her precious baby girl Stella Obregon whom she had the joy and sadness of only knowing for four days. Stella was born the youngest of her children.

Naomi is survived by her dear husband Joe Obregon, her children Katheyjo (Kj) Obregon, Dorothy Obregon Davis, Ernest (Ernie) Obregon and his wife Iris (De Jesus) Obregon; her granddaughters Alyssa Davis, Rayna Davis, Victoria Obregon and Sophia Obregon; also, her granddaughter by Iris and Ernie’s marriage, Lisette Cortes with husband Noe Cortes, and their children whom Naomi loved as their great-grandma, Sabrina Cortes, Vanessa Cortes, and Jesus (Jesse) Cortes.

If you would like to make a donation in Naomi’s name the family suggests the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, as her granddaughter Rayna Davis is a Tomorrow’s Leaders Council Member for CF, Arizona-Phoenix chapter. The foundation is set to find better cures and treatment for this disease which makes it difficult, for those who have it, to breathe. My sincere condolences and prayers for the family of Naomi and to her wonderful husband Joe. She was a beautiful person. Naomi was a wonderful neighbor. I love to talk to her. Always had a kind word to say. She will truly be missed. I love to see her drive her Cadillac. She love that car so much. When something would go wrong with her car, she would immediately have it fixed no matter what. Naomi was not giving up her car. You will truly be missed my friend but you are in a much better place where no pain or sorrow exist. Absent from the body present with the Lord.
God’s Blessings Upon The Family,
Virginia Armstrong
