

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, October 10, 2013, at Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Steve King officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be made to charity of your choice.
Mr. Slay was born October 16, 1935 in Ozark, Alabama. He was the youngest of 8 children born to the late Wesley Wilson Slay and Lucille Parker Slay.
Mr. Slay served 6 years in the US Navy and 22 years in the US Air Force, retiring as Technical Sergeant in 1978. He received many awards during his military career including the Air Force Commendation Medal and First Oak Leaf Cluster for Meritorious Service.
Following his military career, he was employed for many years as an electronics technician for Sikorsky and DynCorp at Ft Rucker.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by sisters: Betty Slay Newell (Joseph), and Juanita Slay Nibbs (Graham); and brothers: William (Bill) Slay (Eva), Kay P. Slay (Judith), Whit O’Neal Slay (Margaret), Robert (Buddy) Slay, and Franklin Garner Slay (Christine).
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Schella Johnson Slay; children: Frank Bishop Reeves ( Amory), Henry Carver Reeves (Josie), and Schella Celeste Gulledge; grandchildren: Mary Katherine Reeves Benton (Josh), Frank Bishop Reeves, Jr., Taylor Victoria Reeves, Carver Joseph Reeves, Colin James Reeves, Reeves Parker Gulledge. and Peyton Spence Gulledge. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
