Martha Lurene Strickland

Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at Asbury United Methodist Church with Reverend Rick Patterson officiating and Mrs. Lavon Williams as a special speaker. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be on Monday from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at the funeral home.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund.

Ms. Strickland was born on September 14, 1936, to the late Harmon Strickland, Sr. and Hettie Bottoms Strickland of Dale County. She owned and operated Martha’s Grocery for many years in Asbury as well as working at Bryan’s Jewelry and Sessions Building Supply. Ms. Strickland was also a lifelong member of Asbury United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Ruby Lee Byrd and Lucille Payne; one brother, Harmon Strickland, Jr., and one nephew, James Bradley “Brad” Strickland.

Left to cherish her memory is her sister, Anna M. Snell; her brother, J.D. Strickland, both of Ozark. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews, Nelda Livesay- Lisa, Tim, Chad, Ivey, Josh, Stephanie, Hannah, Dana, Lamar; Davis Payne- Kim, Karla, Sarah Beth, Maggie, Andrew, Tori; Jerry and Gloria Strickland- Regina, Dedra, Matthew, Colby; Lanier and Paula Strickland- Erin; Shirley Merice and Richard Raff- Trisha, Rudy, Ashli (God-Daughter), Lea, Robert, Dalland, Anna, Jaxon, Tammy, Robby, Lee, Brandi, Scott, Joshua; Justion and Jan Snell- Brandon.

Special recognition goes to her niece, Shirley Merice Raff, who took special care of our beloved Aunt Martha for several years as well as the staff at Ozark Health and Rehab, Dr. Caffey, Dr. Chandler and the staff at Community Hospice.

Pallbearers will be Justion Snell, Rudy Huckaba, Robby McCarter, Robert Carroll, Josh Hall and Leroy McCarter.
