Rufus Edward Simmons

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 14, 2011, at the chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Billy Gaither officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens under the direction of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home. Visitation will also be held at the chapel Friday, January 14, from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Salvation Army or Paralysis Veterans.

Mr. Simmons was born December 10, 1929 in Covington County, Alabama, son of the late James Herring Simmons and Viola V. Dozier Simmons. He retired from the U.S. Army as a CW-3 after 24 years of service; and he also retired from the Ozark City Schools system.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Carolyn H. Simmons, Ozark, AL; two sons: Mickey (Linda) Simmons, Enterprise, AL and Ricky (Linda) Simmons, Augusta, GA; one grandson, Tyler Simmons, Enterprise, AL; as well as several cousins and other family members.
