
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Chapel with Rev. Troy West officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens under the direction of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home. Visitation will held Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Chapel from 2:00 p.m. until service time.
Shelly Helms was born July 9, 1922 in Barbour County, Alabama, son of the Walter F. and Evie Swanner Helms. Rev. Helms was a WWII Veteran and served as a Tank Commander in the European Theatre. He was a pastor for 40 years including 25 years at Blue Springs Assembly of God Church. After his retirement, he attended Northside Assembly of God Church in Dothan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers: Howard Helms, Willie F. Helms, Lewie B. Helms, J.P. Helms, John F. Helms, and Walter F. Helms
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Evelyn Helms, of Dothan, AL; daughter, Deirdre D. Helms, of Atlanta, GA; son, Philip Helms (Renee), of Panama City Beach, FL; sister, Vela Mae Green, of Clayton, AL; and three granddaughters: Angelica Helms, Anastasia Helms Reid, and Emily Helms.
