

Barbara Ann (Claxton) Conlan, age 79, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2025, in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Born on September 13, 1945, in Miami, Florida, Barbara lived a life marked by devotion to her family, dedication to her career, and unwavering faith.
Barbara’s early years were filled with a love for learning that led her to pursue certification as a Legal Secretary. This foundation launched a distinguished career spanning over three decades with the City of Hialeah in Florida. Throughout her tenure, Barbara achieved the highest level of accomplishment in her field. She was greatly respected and admired by her colleagues for her professionalism and commitment. Her work ethic and integrity left an indelible mark on those who had the privilege of working alongside her.
Beyond her professional achievements, Barbara was a woman of deep compassion and enduring strength. She had a kind and gentle spirit that touched everyone she met. Her warm smile and generous heart were hallmarks of her character, and she was known for being a constant source of love and support to those around her.
Barbara cherished her family above all else. She leaves behind her devoted daughter, Donna Garner and step-son, Phil Dunn; beloved granddaughter, Crystal Garner-Covington and grandson, Zachary Garner; great-grandson William Covington, great granddaughter, Kaylee Covington-Comeau; and great-grandson Grayson Garner, all of whom brought immense joy into her life. Barbara also leaves behind her step-brother Cody Claxton and step-daughter, Caroline Votava; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father Hardwick Claxton Sr., mother Adele Troutman, son Curtis Dunn, step-daughter Phillis Garner, sister Judy Kirk and brother Hardwick Claxton Jr.
Barbara found joy in the simple pleasures of life—she loved horses and horseback riding, fishing trips under the sun, and peaceful days spent camping in nature’s embrace. These hobbies reflected her adventurous spirit and appreciation for the beauty of the world around her.
Her Christian faith was a guiding light throughout her life. In recent years, she found spiritual fulfillment worshiping with Pastor Hunter and the Church Family at Plantation Baptist Church. Her relationship with God grew stronger each day, providing comfort and strength through every season of life. Barbara’s legacy is one of kindness, generosity, resilience, and love—a legacy that will continue to live on through all who knew her.
May Barbara Ann Conlan’s memory bring peace to those who loved her and inspiration to all whose lives she touched. Funeral services will be held on September 6, 2025, from 12:00pm to 3:00pm at Fountainhead Funeral Home located at 7359 Babcock Street SE, Palm Bay, Florida 32909.
