Cal was a man of many things. Always approachable and incredibly knowledgeable. Highly respected in many roles for over 40 years at REDCOM Laboratories, Cal was the go-to guy for anything and everything. Exceedingly proud, Cal served 5 years of active duty in the United States Air Force and continued his military career in the New York Air National Guard, retiring after 36 years of service in 2012. An avid outdoorsman and lifelong friend, Cal always looked forward to his annual camping trips with loved ones. But, most of all, Cal was a family man. He truly loved his Robin through better and worse, sickness and health. And, if you knew Cal, you most certainly knew how proud he is of his boys. Even throughout their “bonehead” years, he loved and hugged and laughed and helped each of them glue everything back together, more than once. A true pillar of strength. Cal was smitten with his grand-babies and beloved by his nieces Kayleigh and Nina. He was the greatest Grandpa, Funkle, additional father figure, and best friend confidante wrapped up in one. This may be best summed up by the words of his niece, Kayleigh.
Approximately 3,400 weekends. Including without differentiating the ones spent proudly serving your Country. Not a whole lot of time, but plenty enough to instill wisdom and lessons that would remain otherwise unlearned, to the willing, and hopefully, the unwilling listeners. A strict eye for beauty and stupidity, cautious enough to know the difference; reckless enough to play it out. A boisterous, beautiful, contagious laugh. The very best of the very best. As the tale is told, it’s better to be one than to marry one, but you’re the exception to the rule. How sweet it is, to have been loved by you.
Cal’s family will be holding a Celebration of Life in Rochester, New York in the Spring.
