Catherine M. Marsh, 80, of Orlando and formerly of Palm Bay died Friday (3/15) in a Winter Garden long term care facility. A native of Newark, New Jersey, she came to Central Florida in 1982 from New Jersey. She was a Catholic and had been an Administrative Assistant working in the Health Care industry. Catherine was very active during the time she was in school and had been voted most athletic and was a varsity cheerleader. It was while she was a cheerleader she met her husband of 62 years, John, who was a football player.
Catherine enjoyed being at the beach and was an avid reader that enjoyed mystery and suspense novels. Her love of the outdoors included spending time with her plants and bird watching. When in the house she particularly enjoyed cooking and baking, which was always from scratch and never taking the shortcuts. She also enjoyed dancing which led her and her husband to many dance contests where they were especially good at the Jitter-Bug. For many years after moving to the Melbourne area she worked part time as a merchandiser for the American Greetings Company and was always at the ladies luncheon they had every month.
One of the major loves and concerns of her life was always her family. In addition to her husband Catherine is survived by one son: Timothy Marsh of Orlando; two daughters: Pamela Burd of Roseville, Minnesota, Kathleen O’Brien of Fountain Hills, AZ; two brothers: James and William Scabet of Newton, NJ; and two sisters: Mary Marsh of Newton, NJ; and Margaret Santos of Oxford, North Carolina.
Funeral services will be Thursday (3/21) at 1:00 PM in the Fountainhead Funeral Chapel. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday (3/20) from 6 until 8 PM. Interment will follow in Fountainhead Memorial Cemetery. The family suggests memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Association of Central Florida, 988 Woodcock Rd., Suite 200, Orlando, FL 32803 or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123 for those who wish.
