OBITUARY

CECELIA W ABBOTT

January 9, 1936October 28, 2010

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Cecelia White Abbott, age 74, passed away in Palm Bay, Florida on October 28, 2010. Born January 9, 1936 in San Diego, California, she attended High School at Point Loma and graduated from Woodbury College, CA. Upon graduation, modeled and coordinated fashion shows at the Hecht Company in Washington D.C. She shared her love of nature's color and design with numerous school children through her traveling shell exhibit. At the New York Shell Club, she met future husband and noted Malacologist, Dr. Robert Tucker Abbott. Together, the Abbotts were very active in the Astronaut Trail Shell Club (Florida East Coast), judged numerous shell exhibits all over the state of Florida, and went around the world in 80 days gathering data for a Compendium of Landshells book. Following the death of Dr. Abbott, Cecelia became an active member of the Sea Bean Society and traveled to the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico for her last major collecting expedition in 2005. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and is survived by daughters, Cheryl Wahl (Spouse-Ronald), Jonna Robson, Erika Von Zoog (Spouse-Scott); grandsons, Dyllan Marshall and Camyron Cross. A celebration of Cecelia's life will be held on Sunday, October 31st at 3:00 p.m. at Fountainhead Funeral Home, 7359 Babcock Street, Palm Bay, FL 32909.

Like my son, Edward Perry, I met Cecelia through the Sea Bean Symposium. Cecelia was one of those rare people that can talk to anyone and make them feel as if they had known her for years. She was so patient with all the guests at the Symposiums, always taking the time to answer their questions on shells and eager to share her experiences with everyone.
Cecelia was not only beautiful on the outside, but a truly beautiful human being on the inside as well.
She will be remembered by many people that were lucky enough to be touched by her life in one way or another.
To you, her Family, I give my deepest sympathy and offer you the knowledge of knowing that your Mother/Grandmother was a truly unique individual that added to the joy of life on this earth!

Cecelia was such a beautiful lady, both inside and out; I am a better person for having known her and feel so fortunate that God crossed our paths on this journey called “Life.”
One of my favorite things about Cecelia was that though she was elegant and oh so beautiful, here was this woman who loved the things of nature, and not just the cute and cuddly creatures! She was in awe over the poisonous shells that could harpoon their prey (the cones) as well as the neighborhood bats that come out each evening to feed on airborne insects. I can still see her beautiful smile as she would watch my facial expressions as she told me stories of some of these wonderful creatures that had caught her interest and attention.
In the years we spent together since my first Sea Bean Symposium where my display piqued her curiosity, Cecelia has always shared her wealth of knowledge, words of encouragement and support, as well as lots of laughter and inspiration. I will never forget our trip together as we beachcombed the Yucatan Peninsula with 9 other friends, as well as our trip to the Sanibel Shell Show and the Bailey-Matthew Shell Museum, along with countless dinners together just to share company and friendship.
My deepest condolences go out to Cheryl, Jonna, Erika and all of their families, especially grandson Dyllan, who she seemed to share an extra special bond with (she told me about you Dyllan ALL THE TIME!—keep her alive in your heart). You all had a very special mother and grandmother that was a very special and unique person, one like you may meet only once or twice on life’s journey. I am so glad I met Cecelia.

Dearest Cecelia, Even though it has been a number of years since I have seen you I have thought of you often. And thought of all the good times we had especially traveling around Florida. How we laughed. So many precious memories.
We were such good friends you and I. I will miss you more than I can say.
I know you are in a better place. Your energy and spirit will live in my heart
and we will meet again.
Cheryl, Jonna and Erika my deepest condolences.

Cecelia was a dear woman to all who knew her. I will remember her warmth, her smile, her wisdom, her colorful attire and her love for the natural world. I am so fortuante to have known her love and affections as a friend and regret that I didn't interact with her more after our big trip to souther Mexico in 2005. She touched my heart and spirit and I am grateful for the love, wisdom and friendship she bestowed upon me.

As eternal beings, i know she is OK (better in fact) where she is now than in her last days, weeks, months. I know that she is part of me and all of you and that in us she lives on. One day, in the not too distant future (as time seems to FLY), we will all join her and our dear friend Cathie Katz on that distant shore.

I love you Cecelia W. Abbott and thank you for your friendship here on Earth.
