Born on March 20, 1937, in Morganton, NC. Charles lived a life marked by service, dedication, and devotion to those he loved. At the young age of 17 Charles had his mom sign the paperwork to allow him to enlist in the US Army. He served his country with great pride for 26 years, retiring as a Sergeant Major. Following his military career, he continued his service through his work with the U.S. Postal Service. An avid golfer, Charles loved being on the course. He played all over the world; but during his retirement you could often find him at Joe Daddy’s Golf course next to the house.
Above all, Charles was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He shared 53 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Tam Thi Roper, and together they built a family that was the center of his life.
He leaves behind his children Larry Roper, Donnie Roper, Linh Roper, Jason Roper, Julie Roper (Sumner), Ernie Roper, and Tina Roper (Hilinski), along with 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. His family was his greatest joy, and in his own words, he simply wished to be remembered as “a good ole boy.”
Well done, good and faithful servant.
