Dennis Charles Osterman, age 90, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2025, in Palm Bay, Florida, surrounded by his devoted family. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on February 19, 1935, Dennis was raised in Marion County, Indiana, developing the values of hard work, humility, and compassion that would define his life.
He worked tirelessly—sometimes holding three jobs at once—to ensure his loved ones were cared for and supported. His home was a haven of warmth, wisdom, and laughter, where stories were shared, hugs were abundant, and every visitor felt like family.
Dennis proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959, stationed overseas in Germany. His time in uniform was a defining chapter of his life, and he carried that pride with him always. The discipline, loyalty, and sense of purpose he gained through service shaped the man he became and the legacy he leaves behind.
He retired from Pan Am/Johnson Controls after 39 years of dedicated service, where he worked as a Lead Mechanic at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida, and held various other roles throughout his career. Dennis was proud to be part of the Apollo Program, contributing to the historic effort that helped put astronauts on the moon. Later, he continued his commitment to community by working as a Facility Mechanic for Brevard County Schools, retiring after 28 years.
Dennis was married to Elizabeth C. Osterman for 47 years, building a life rooted in love, partnership, and shared devotion to family. Together, they created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and enduring values that continue to live on through their children and grandchildren.
Faith was a cornerstone of Dennis’s life. He was a founding member of Christ United Methodist Church and remained a devoted member of Wesley United Methodist Church in his later years. His spiritual strength, generosity, and quiet leadership touched countless lives within his church family.
Dennis will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Georgianne M. Cherry; daughter Janet L. Smith (Roger); son D. Scott Osterman (Michele); son David M. Osterman; daughter Valerie A. Berry (Daniel); and son Randall T. Osterman. He is also remembered by his fourteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces, all to carry forward his legacy of love, strength, and kindness.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Elizabeth C. Osterman; his father Edward Osterman; his mother Loretta Osterman; his sisters Mary Miller and Rosanne Totten; his brother Richard Osterman; and granddaughter Sabrina Smith.
A visitation will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church, located at 2075 Meadowlane Avenue, West Melbourne, Florida, 32904 on Friday, September 12, 2025, from 12:00pm to 1:00pm, followed by a memorial service from 1:00pm to 2:00pm. A military graveside ceremony will take place at 3:00pm at Fountainhead Memorial Park.
In honor of Dennis, the family invite all who knew him to perform an act of kindness—large or small—as a tribute to the generous spirit he embodied throughout his life.
