VERO BEACH, FL
Donald, 92, of Vero Beach, FL passed away quietly on January 27, 2019.
He was pre-deceased by his wife of 70 years, Barbara (Bobby) and is survived by, daughter Sharon Parks, son Jeffrey MacFarland and his wife, Margie, 5 grandchildren Loren Moran and her husband Patrick, Amy Parks, Randy Parks and his wife Terry, Tyler MacFarland and Chase MacFarland and 7 great-grandchildren Jacob Parks, Madison Moran, Darren Roscoe, Christian Parks, Lucas Parks, James Parks and Sovanna MacFarland.
Fresh out of high school, Don joined the Navy to serve his country during World War II. Upon his Honorary Discharge, he worked at a Buick dealership and attended General Motors Institute. He later started his entrepreneurship by purchasing a Buick dealership. When he sold the dealership, and retired, he moved his wife and 2 children to Key Biscayne, Florida. During his “retirement years” on Key Biscayne, he bought and sold real estate, purchased a Bressler’s Ice Cream shop and boated throughout the Bahama’s and Bimini. He and Bobby moved to the Florida Keys and Don attended Tennis College where he earned his tennis teaching certificate. They roamed up and down the Keys in a VW van filled with tennis equipment and supplies and gave private lessons and played tennis with Ted Williams and others.
When tennis had run its course, Don and Bobby bought a pop-up camper and started touring the United States. Over the years they graduated to a travel trailer and eventually a 36’ 5th Wheel that they traveled and lived in for a couple of years. They finally “settled down” in Vero Beach where they were very active helping many people through Financial Christian Counseling and remained there until Jesus called them home.
In memory of Donald, contributions may be made to VNA Hospice of Indian River County.
A memorial service will be held on February 5, 2019 at Freedom Church, 455 58th Avenue S.W., Vero Beach, FL at 4:00 p.m.
