Don was born on July 29, 1939, to George John Phillips and Egle Mantovani Phillips in New York City, New York. He transitioned to glory on June 17, 2026, at his home in Melbourne, Florida. He grew up in Queens, N.Y., where he learned to love baseball and cheer for the Yankees. He spent many summers at the family lake house in Lake George, N.Y., swimming and fishing.
Don studied Chemical Engineering at Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute in New York City. Through a family friend he met the love of his life, Andrina Miller, a ballet dancer who was on Broadway in the musical Destry Rides Again. They secretly married on Jan. 13, 1959, and remained married for over 65 years. They raised two boys, Bruce and John, in the knowledge of the Lord.
Don graduated from Brooklyn Poly with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. He then graduated from New York University with a master’s degree in chemical engineering. He worked for General Foods in New York and then as an engineering consultant in many other places throughout the U.S., including Fort Madison, Iowa; St. Louis, Missouri; Charleston, West Virginia; Bethlehem, West Virginia; Kingsport, Tennessee; Columbia, Illinois; Columbus, Ohio; and Chillicothe, Ohio. Don and Andrina eventually settled in Melbourne, Florida, where they attended Calvary Chapel Melbourne.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, George and Egle Phillips, his wife, Andrina Phillips, and his daughter-in-love, Debra Phillips. He is survived by his brother, Stuart Phillips; by his sons and daughter-in-love, Bruce Phillips, and John and Elaine Phillips; by his grandchildren: Bonnie and Joey Neptune, Mark and Nikki Phillips, Lauren and Masa Okude, Kayleigh and Jonathan Carbajal, and Sharon Phillips; and by his four great-grandchildren. He is remembered fondly by his sister-in-law, Sheila Lauffer, his nephews and their families.
Don came to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ through an Institute of Creation Research talk in New York. As a man of science, his faith in evolution was proved false and he put his faith in Christ. He will be remembered for his love for and faithfulness to his God and his family.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Calvary Chapel Melbourne for their love and ministry over the years. We are thankful that God placed our parents into such a nurturing church family.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday June 27th at 10 am at Calvary Chapel Melbourne in the small chapel. address: 2955 Minton Rd, West Melbourne, FL 32904
