Born in Nashville, TN, Doug moved his family to Melbourne, FL, in 1960, where he began a long career with the City of Melbourne. Over the years, he worked his way up to Maintenance Superintendent, dedicating 33 years of service before retiring in 1994.
Doug was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, known for his kindness, humor, and dedication to family. He was happiest on the water, whether fishing or boating, and loved spending time in his workshop, always tinkering with something—especially boat motors. He had a knack for fixing things and was always willing to help others. Doug was also a man of strong convictions who loved a good debate, especially about politics and current events.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mitchell and Noda Crook, and his beloved wife of 35 years, Marian Crook, with whom he shared a wonderful life. He was the oldest of four siblings—Terry Crook, Wayne Crook, Gary Crook, and Alice Lindsey—all of whom preceded him in death.
In his later years, he found companionship and happiness with Loraine Colwell, sharing a close and cherished bond.
Doug is survived by his three children, Donna Breeden, Debra VanAlstyne, and Gilbert Crook (Becky); nine grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was deeply loved by his family and will be forever remembered and greatly missed.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Fountainhead Funeral Home, 7359 Babcock St SE, Palm Bay. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 AM.
Flowers are welcome and may be sent to Fountainhead Funeral Home, or in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VITAS Community Connection in Doug’s memory.
Doug’s kindness, craftsmanship, and love for life’s simple joys will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him.
