On April 23, 1917 God saw fit to enrich the lives of the late Rev. Edward and Maggie Atchison in Spartanburg, South Carolina with a handsome son, whom they named Edward Othea. He was the eighth of nine brothers and sisters. He lived in Spartanburg most of his young adult life, then later moved to Detroit, Michigan and worked for Ford Motor Co. a few years before starting his own business.
Edward received Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age as a member of Atchison Chapel in Spartanburg, South Carolina where he served most of his youthful years. Later when he moved to Detroit, Michigan, he immediately joined St. Stephen A.M.E. Church. He became an active member of Usher board #1, serving as president until he moved to Palm Bay, FL. After soul searching for several months he decided to join and become a member of Faith Baptist Church in Palm Bay, Florida
Edward met Selena, the love is his life and professed his love and affection through holy matrimony. They were married for 62 years. He was a loving husband, devoted father and a doting grandfather. During this union, three children were born, Andria, Fidel, and Larnese. He loved to travel with his wife and enjoyed cruises with family and friends.
Edward received his formal education at the Pleasant Fall School District of Spartanburg County. He served in the U.S. Army in the Military Police during WWII and won a boxing championship in Southern France. He received his private pilot license in 1947. He owned and operated Edward Atchison Trucking Co. (EAT.CO.) and also worked in excavating and a Bus Transit Charter Service. He was a Mason of the Prince Hall in Detroit Michigan.
God saw the road was getting rough for Edward Othea Atchison. The hills were hard to climb. God gently closed those weary eyes and whispered “Peace be Thine” on September 4, 2012 at the age of Ninety-five.
