Eunice Ellen Soucy, 93, passed away on January 19, 2019. She was the widow of Captain Raymond Oliver Soucy. Married on May 1, 1948 in Lowell, Massachusetts, they shared 61 wonderful years of marriage together before his passing on March 17, 2009.
Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of Thomas A. Keyes and Ruth Hazel Malorey. She attended Salem State Teacher’s College in 1946 followed by two years as an airline stewardess with United Airlines. She also pursued a career as a kindergarten teacher and Librarian at Ascension Catholic Church from 1961 to 1966. And she was a Homemaker, Baker extraordinaire, and Quiltmaker.
Eunice was well known in Sebastian as the “Quilt Lady.” She donated thousands of quilts to the Sebastian Police Department, Shriner’s Hospital, Children’s Hospital of Tampa, Space Coast Early Intervention Center, Children’s Home Society, and many others, for the benefit of abused or sick children. She also donated quilts to the homeless. Eunice quilted for years during her every waking hour. Her dedication and tenacity gave much joy to those in need. Fortunate recipients of a Eunice Soucy quilt still report in after 30 years saying their quilt delivers daily LOVE!
She was a longtime member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church.
She is survived by her sons: Peter David Soucy of Sebastian, FL and Richard (Jeanette) Phillip Soucy of Melbourne Beach, FL; daughter, Gail Ellen Soucy of Gainesville, FL; four grandchildren: Ray Soucy, Malorey Henderson, Heather Soucy, and Bradley Soucy; and a great granddaughter, Stella Ray Soucy.
Receiving of friends will take place at the church from 10:00 am until the time of church service. The funeral mass will be held on Monday, January 28, 2019 at 11:00 am at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 13075 US-1, Sebastian, FL 32958. Interment in the Chapel of Peace mausoleum at Fountainhead Memorial Park, 7303 Babcock Street SE, Palm Bay, FL 32905.
