George L. Hembree
March 5, 1945 – July 25, 2022

George L. Hembree, 77, passed away on July 25, 2022. He was the husband of Fran (Frances) Hembree. They shared 42.5 years of marriage together.
Born in Detroit, Michigan, he was the son of Roswell and Jewell Hembree. He attended Manual High School in Indianapolis and was on the basketball team when Manual beat Kokomo for the State Championship. He then graduated from Greenwood High School in 1963. The day after graduation he left for boot camp. He was a Vietnam Veteran having served in the Air Force as an Air/Military Policeman from 1963 thru 1967. He was stationed in Japan and Germany as well as Vietnam. After an honorable discharge from the Air Force, he held a few jobs until becoming employed by Delco Electronics/General Motors for 31 years.
He loved watching the Chicago Bears and Indianapolis Colts, especially when Peyton Manning was the quarterback. He enjoyed relaxing with a cold beer at Bert and Johns socializing with his friends and watching the Price is Right.
He is survived by spouse Fran Hembree, children Kristy Myers (Aaron Cadwallader), James (Jim) Hembree and Christopher Pettay, step-son, granddaughter Kasey (Zach) Davis and several great-grandchildren all in Kokomo. George also has a sister, Toby (Jerry) Jenn in Indianapolis and several siblings in Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson Alex Myers.
The Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 1:00pm at the Palm Bay Colony Community Center, 2379 Ersoff Blvd., Palm Bay, FL 32905. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to your favorite animal shelter.
