Born in Kingston, NY, on May 24, 1932, she was the daughter of William and Gladys Paulus. She attended SUNY New Paltz and began following her passion for teaching children, which she continued all the way through retirement in 1988 from the Traver Road School, Arlington School District in Pleasant Valley, NY.
Once retired, Gladys began many years of travel with Vince, friends, and family. She loved being an active volunteer in Ulster County, with AARP, Office of the Aging, American Legion Auxiliary, and her Church.
Gladys was honored with a Certificate of Appreciation for 10 years of service as an Outstanding Volunteer for the Office of the Aging by Ulster County Executive Honorable Michael P. Hein.
Gladys especially enjoyed playing her organ, painting, going to Bingo with her sister Sue, planning AARP trips with her brother Bill, and going on cruises with husband, children, and friends.
Gladys is survived by her husband Vincent, and five children: Cindy (Pat), Dave (Melissa), Cheryl (John), Peter (Katherine), and Jeff (Kelli); seven grandchildren: Jason (Persi), Adam, Cassie (Matt), Elise (David), Chris, Olivia (Irvin), and Danny; and one great grandson: Dean. Gladys is also survived by her sister Susanna Bickert (Doyle Barger) and her brother Robert Paulus (Rosemary) and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother and father and her brother William Paulus.
With the support of her children and outstanding assistance from the VNA hospice team during several years of struggling with dementia, Gladys was able to spend her time at home in Village Green, Vero Beach, FL. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, contributions in Gladys´ memory may be made to the VNA & Hospice Foundation (www.vnatc.com/foundation/waystodonate).
