Harry Le Roy Buchanan
April 8, 1924 – January 7, 2019
Harry LeRoy Buchanan was born in Windsor Castle, St. Mary, Jamaica on April 8, 1924 to Ina Buchanan. And so began the life of the man that the people gathered here today were proud to call father, grandfather, uncle, father-in-law, and friend. He was affectionately called Uncle Roy by family and Mr. Buck by friends.
He had a sister, Louise, who was two years older than him. After a while, he moved to Kingston to find work where he lived with his sister and her husband. He worked as a carpenter, which he loved, and he use to ride a motorcycle to work and took his niece Marie to school on it much to the distress of his sister.
He used to enjoy attending political rallies and loved to climb into the truck to be a part of the reveling and singing and cheering. In his younger days, he also enjoyed dancing, singing with the young crowd- basically just having a good ol’ time.
Harry eventually met and married the love of his life, Lucille. They migrated to Canada and then the Bronx, New York. He worked for the City of New York as a skilled carpenter until he retired.
After they retired, he and Lucille moved to Palm Bay, Florida where he made new friends- he loved to socialize. He also loved the game of cricket therefore became a member of the Bcasca Cricket Club. He spent a lot of time working in his front and backyard. He loved planting trees and growing fruits and vegetables; he found yard work to be very distracting, relaxing, and rewarding. Harry also loved to travel and often went to Bermuda, Jamaica, Canada, and New York to visit family and friends.
Harry was always a happy person; he was well liked and respected. He was someone you could trust and rely on, someone you could confide in. He was a quiet and reserved man. He did not get angry often, but once he did, you knew you must have really messed up.
Harry will be sorely missed, but not forgotten. He leaves to cherish his memories daughter, Claudia Buchanan and son-in-law, Willie Evans; grandchildren: William, Tahd, Kalos, and Tayla Evans; niece, Marie Kakrah; and multiple nieces and nephews from his wife’s side of the family.
