He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. This experience led him to a career in the Aerospace and Defense industry. He worked for companies including GE, Anaren Microwave, Trak Microwave, and Mnemonics.
While serving in the military, Joe traveled throughout various parts of Europe and Asia. This inspired a passion for collecting. He enjoyed stamps, coins, rocks and minerals, artwork, and anything representing United States or world cultures and history. He had a lifelong love for woodworking and gardening.
Joe was married to Eileen L. Ballou from 1967-1999. He was preceded in death by his father, Peter Joseph, his mother, Gladys Guy Krastel, and his sister, Elizabeth Glover. He is survived by his daughter, Kami Teresa Spindler, his son, Eric Joseph, daughter-in-law, Kimberly, son-in-law, Gregory Spindler, two grandsons, Zackary and Dylan Spindler, his sisters Eleanor Eichelman and Cynthia Reier, brothers-in-law, Frank Glover and Tom Reier, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Joe will be laid to rest at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery.
