Ines lsmilda Graham was born on January 20th, 1926 in Darliston, Westmoreland, Jamaica. She was the only child of Dorcas McFarlane and Milton Salmon. Ines loss her mother at the tender age of two and was raised by her maternal aunt.
Ines later moved to Kingston, where she put her excellent cooking skills to use. She worked as a housekeeper and chef for various well-known dignitaries in Jamaica. Ines worked for 10 years as a Certified Nurses Aide at Bellevue Mental Hospital in Jamaica.
Ines also had the gift of sewing and embroidery. She would create designs by hand, then intricately embroider those designs. As a child, I would often watch her work and just marvel at her talent.
Ines attended St. Patrick's Church in Kingston, Jamaica. She met the love of her life, Egbert, in Kingston and in 1968 her dream of being a mother was realized when she had her only child Halcian (Lavern).
Ines migrated to the United States in 1988 to join her husband Egbert (R.I.P). There, she was employed as a Home Health Aide with R.A.I.N. Home Health Care from 1989 until her retirement in 1998. She became a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in the Bronx, New York, where she served faithfully for 18 years.
Ines moved with her daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter to Palm Bay, Florida in 2006. Although she was nervous about leaving her family and friends, she was excited about embarking on a new adventure.
She was so happy to find her church home at Church of Our Savior and loved the many dear friendships that she made there. Ines was always eager and excited to attend church every Sunday and would often say, "I have to go give God thanks for one more day''.
Ines was well known for her sense of humor and joyous presence. No matter her situation, she always had a joke to share. She was sunshine on a cloudy day. Ines was the life of the party. She loved to dance and had a great sense of style. She loved to sing and would often be heard singing or humming wherever she was. She was love. She was light. She was quiet strength. She was my mom.
Ines departed to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 5th, 2019. She was 93 years old. Left behind to continue her legacy of faith, love, laughter, and joy, is her daughter Halcian (Lavern), son-in-law Douglas, granddaughter Janelle, stepdaughter Arlene, and a host of extended family and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Sleep in eternal peace Mommy, Grandma, Ms. Ines, Ms. Mack, Mackie. Well done good and faithful servant.
