

Irene Luna (Roeder) Fritz, 96, passed away on Sunday Oct 5, 2014 at Glenbrooke Assisted Living, Palm Bay, FL. She was born in Niagara Falls, NY on May 17, 1918, the daughter of the late Henry Roeder Jr & Eleanor (Rice) Roeder.
Irene’s passion was roller skating. She started skating as a teenager in Buffalo, NY & Ontario, Canada; then moved to New Haven, CT where she started her Professional Artistic Skating career. Upon moving to New York City, she met the love of her life Herman Fritz on the skating floor. They were married April 4, 1948, moved to Chattanooga, TN in 1955 & then transferred to Avon, CT in 1962 where she worked at Connecticut General Ins Co & in 1985 Irene retired to Palm Bay, FL. She is a life time member of the Greater Palm Bay Senior Ctr, where she was the entertainment director & worked with Meals-on-Wheels for many years.
Irene is survived by her two daughters: Sandra Thomsen & her husband Carl Thomsen Jr of Winsted, CT and Hazel Fritz of Melbourne, FL; 3 grandchildren: Brian Thomsen & his wife April, Chris Thomsen & his wife Emily and Jessie Thomsen; two great grandchildren: William & Jacob Thomsen. She is also survived by a sister-in-law Edith Roeder; two nephews: Earl Roeder Jr. and William Roeder and their families. She was predeceased by her husband, Herman Fritz and brother, Earl Roeder Sr.
Irene L. (Roeder) Fritz, passed away on Oct. 5, 2014. A burial service will be held on Nov 15, 2014 at 1pm at Fountainhead Memorial Cemetery, open to the public. Following the service, we will gather at the Waterline Marina Club House 911 N. Harbor City Blvd. Melbourne, FL for a Celebration of Life from 2:30 to 4:30pm.
