Jacqueline “Jackie” Colantonio passed away after a two-year battle with lung cancer. Her husband, Steve, and two children Chris and Tracy were at her bedside throughout the long night. She was 69 years old. Jackie was the youngest child of Marge & Jim Lanza and enjoyed her early days playing with older sister Diana and older brother, Tony. Jackie was married to Steve Colantonio for 47 years and shared two terrific children, Christopher and Tracy. She also was blessed with a supportive daughter-in-law, Lisa and two “apple of her eye” grandchildren, Alison and Andrew.
Jackie’s early married years saw her teach and later become bookkeeper at her young one’s preschool on Long Island, New York. Moving to Florida in early 1991 she helped run the family-owned donut business where she enjoyed talking to customers and sharing laughs with her co-workers.
Jackie finished out her career as a procurement administrator at Harris Corporation. Jackie loved being a vital part of her husband’s DJ business by organizing the wedding parties and singing “Last Dance” at the end of the night.
Her family’s years of vacation travel turned into a lifetime of arranging and traveling with not only her family, but with her close friends and girl trips. In the last 3 years she got to complete her dream vacations to Africa (with niece Dawn) and Europe with 12 other couples.
Jackie’s vibrant personality and lust for life earned her some of the most satisfying times with an army of friends and family members. Everyone couldn’t get enough of her laughter and infectious smile.
Her second calling could have been as a travel agent for all those vacations and numerous side trips to enjoy life with as many people who loved every beautiful moment they spent with her.
Jackie’s legacy with all that knew her was her zest for life and strength and determination, no matter what roadblocks life threw at her. Everyone was amazed when she beat pancreatic cancer in 2005, enduring a dangerous surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation, which put her in the Intensive Care Unit on two different occasions. Not only did she survive this deadly cancer, but she got stronger and more determined to improve her life. She went back to college at age 51 from 2007-2009 successfully earning a Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree.
Jackie never complained about her brave fight with both cancers, that is what most of her family and friends remember about her. She wanted to be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and supportive wife. The friendships she shared with everyone who were lucky enough to join her on her life’s journey were priceless. It also earned her the distinction of being “the rock” to so many.
Jackie set a shining example to all of how to stay strong and enjoy life with joy and determination. She will sorely be missed but never forgotten.
