Joyce Maud Jackson was born in Forest, St. Ann, Jamaica on December 26th, 1925 to Samuel and Rosetta Garrick. She is the second of four children. She attended the Britonville Elementary School, studied hard and passed 1st, 2nd and 3rd level exams, after which, she went on to teach at the Bamboo Elementary School.
In 1953, she enlisted in the Army Nursing Corp and became a corporal. She served for five years at Up Park Camp in Jamaica. Joyce migrated to England in 1958 and continued her nursing career at St. Stephens Hospital in London. From London, she went to Coventry where she worked at the High View Hospital becoming an enrolled nurse.
In 1960, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Selwyn Jackson. From this marriage, five children were born. She and her husband adopted the Advent message and were baptized in Coventry.
In 1968 she and her children migrated to America to join her husband who had migrated a few months earlier. They settled in Brooklyn, New York and worshipped at the Hanson Place Seventh Day Adventist Church.
She continued her nursing career becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse working at Crown Nursing Home for 24 ½ years. In 1993, she retired and moved to Palm Bay, Florida. She was joined by her husband in 1998.
She was preceded in death by her sister Agatha (Tuncie) and stepson Loxley. She leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted husband Selwyn (“Bobsey”), six children (Beverly, Claudette, Derek, Hugh, Sharon, and Barbara), one stepson Michael, two brothers (Oswald and Vivian), 16 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, family, and this dear church family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
