

Lee was born at the family farm in Seneca Falls, Fayette Township, New York, on November 10, 1916, to Ellen Christiansen Patrick and Bower Newell. He graduated from Mynderse Academy in Seneca Falls in 1937.
As a young man he ran a custom threshing crew throughout Seneca County, NY; worked at Mid-State Body in Waterloo, NY, making wooden car bodies and worked at the Seneca Knitting Mills in Seneca Falls, NY.
He served in the Army Air Corps, 31st Fighter Group, 309th Squadron, from 1940 through 1945 in England, Africa, Sicily, Italy; at the end of the war he worked on an early instrument landing system for the Air Corps.
After World War II he worked in maintenance engineering, retiring from Mead Containers in Camillus, NY, in 1983.
During retirement he traveled extensively and, until this year, spent summers at the family farm in New York.
Lee was preceded in death by his sister, Sarah; and brother, Ray. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Marian Dickow Newell; daughters, Linda (Louis) Swank of Avon, IN, and Mollie Newell of New Albany, IN; son, Lee A. Newell II of Micco, FL; 4 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and 8 nieces and nephews.
At his request, there will be no service. Interment will be private. Memorial donations should be made to the charity of your choice.
