Lilia Diaz de Pozo, aged 95, of Miami Beach, Florida, passed away in Melbourne, Florida on Friday, November 2nd, 2018. She was the widow of Anibal J. Pozo Ramos and they shared 46 wonderful years together.
Lilia was born in Camaguey, Cuba on July 10th, 1923. She studied at “Colegio Teresiano” in Camaguey, and then attended the University of Havana, where she graduated as a Doctor of Pharmacy. Lilia emigrated from Cuba to Caracas, Venezuela in 1961. There, she worked as a high school Chemistry teacher for 25 years, where she impacted dozens of young women and encouraged their pursuit of the sciences. In 1991, she moved to New Jersey with her husband and daughter and settled in Florida in 1993.
Lilia was passionate about educating future generations, and was admired and beloved by her students, even decades later. She will be remembered by her eternal love for her husband, for being a wonderful mother and grandmother, by her timeless grace and elegance, her kind personality, her remarkable intelligence and sharpness of mind, and by her love for chemistry and science. Lilia was a Roman Catholic by faith.
She is survived by her daughters, Lilian del Pozo and Maria Elena Pozo de Fernandez, her son-in-law Antonio Fernandez, and her beloved granddaughter Cristina E. Fernandez.
A Funeral Mass will be held on November 16th, 2018 at Our Lady of Grace in Palm Bay, Florida with internment at Fountainhead Memorial Park in Palm Bay, Florida. Memorial donations may be made in her name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
