Muriel Jackson

Muriel Eunice Jackson, was born to Florence and John Linton in Westmoreland, Jamaica West Indies. Muriel had a sister Hyacinth Iona Linton, who preceded her in death. Muriel was educated as a young girl in Jamaica.

As a young woman, Muriel was employed by a funeral home. Years later she found employment at the J.U.T.A. Bus Company as a conductress. Muriel was a disciplined employee and was fondly remembered for her spicy nature. It frequently showed when she let the riders know, “This bus is not moving until everyone has paid!”

In 1968, Muriel met and married Mr. Verdell Jackson in New York. After a few short years their marriage ended. She soon began working at the New York Telephone Company. She truly enjoyed her time there and remained for several years.

Back in her home of Jamaica, Muriel reconnected with the love of her life, Eric James Lee. They married on December 12, 1992. Sadly, Mr. Lee died on April 1, 1993.

Her dreams of working in the field of medicine finally came into fruition when Muriel began her career as a practical nurse in New York. It was during this time that Muriel reconnected with her long time friend from Jamaica, Mrs. Gladys James.

Years later, Muriel left New York and relocated to Palm Bay, Florida where she again reconnected with Gladys, living only one away from her. Muriel later joined in fellowship with Joy Lutheran Church in Palm Bay, Florida where she was an active member and sang on the choir for over 10 years. She truly enjoyed praise and worship of the Lord in songs and hymns. She often sang songs of adoration at home as well.

As time passed Muriel began caring for her “Three Musketeers,” Justin, Clarissa, Jessica and later, Dawud and Ariel; the children of her goddaughters Marlena James and Lillie Levy and a host of other children.

Muriel is survived by her niece, Aulda McLaughlin, affectionately known as “Girly”, her goddaughter, Marlena James (Frankie James, Shaunella Richards, Justin Findlay and Clarissa Johnson) Lillie & Charlie Levy (Jessica Klein, Dawud Levy, Ariel Levy).
