Norman was born January 28th, 1951 in Montego Bay, Jamaica to Ghie and Dorothy Merchant. He attended Meadowbrook School in his youth. The family relocated to Bronx, New York in 1967. He attended Evander Child's High school. He was the 1st recipient of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. 4 year scholarship. He attended Howard University where he received his Doctorate degree. He completed his medical training at Harlem Hospital in New York City.
Norman was married and moved to California to begin his private OB-GYN practice. He ran a successful practice for decades. He retired in Florida and enjoyed his hobbies of soccer, fishing, listening to Reggae music, and traveling the world with his many friends. Norman is remembered by many as being charming, helpful, witty, and quick with a joke.

He is survived by his son, Anthony; mother, Dorothy; two sisters: Theresa and Sandra; brother, Christopher; four nephews: Steven, Allen, Jesse and Jeremy; and niece, Meagan.
