They married after courting for a year and moved to Vero Beach in 1954. While Bob was away serving in the Army, Peggy and their young son, Kevin, moved back to Chester to live with her sister, Oma. Oma’s husband, Joe, worked at Menard Correctional Center, and their house was on prison grounds.
After Bob’s service was complete, they moved back to Vero Beach in 1958. While there Peggy worked at Southern Bell Telephone as a customer service representative. Their second son, Mark, was also born there.

When they were in High School, she took a job at George Stone Vocational School teaching High School students who needed remedial help. Later, she worked at a middle school as a teacher’s aide with special needs children. She really enjoyed interacting with the children and she loved the job very much.
